39 Kaduna Communities Displaced, Residents Demand Military Base
Residents of Kauru Local Government Area in Kaduna State have called on the federal and state governments to urgently establish a permanent military base, following the displacement of people from about 39 communities due to persistent terrorist attacks.
Speaking during a press briefing, community leaders led by Musa Hassan Shedari described the situation as worsening, with entire villages forced to flee their homes.
Affected communities include Unguwar Isa, Hayin Pastor, Gidan Kunkun, Sabon Layi, Dutsen Yelwa, Randa, Kabari, Unguwar Ganye, and Kadage, among others. Residents say the attacks have cut across ethnic and religious lines, affecting Hausa and Fulani communities, as well as Muslims and Christians alike.
Many displaced persons have taken refuge in Saminaka, Zaria, and Kauru town, where they are now facing economic hardship after abandoning their homes and farmlands.
Community leaders warned that the forested terrain of Kauru has made it easier for terrorists to operate as a hideout for attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, especially in the absence of a permanent military presence.
They stressed that while security forces have carried out operations in parts of the state, temporary deployments are not enough, urging authorities to establish a dedicated military base for rapid response and sustained protection.
The appeal also echoes similar concerns from neighbouring areas such as Kachia, Kajuru, and Kagarko, where residents have reported ongoing attacks and abductions.
Residents warned that continued displacement could trigger a humanitarian crisis and threaten food security, as farming activities remain heavily disrupted.
