Senate urges Tinubu to sack CAC Registrar-General
The Senate of Nigeria has called on President Bola Tinubu to dismiss the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Magaji, over his repeated failure to honour invitations from the Senate Committee on Finance.
The resolution was reached during the Ministry of Finance’s 2026 budget defence and interactive session with members of the economic management team in Abuja. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), lawmakers expressed frustration over what they described as persistent disregard for legislative oversight.
Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu moved the motion summoning the CAC boss and calling for the termination of his appointment, citing repeated absences since the inauguration of the current Senate. He accused the registrar-general of consistently delegating junior officers to represent him. The motion was seconded by Sen. Adams Oshiomhole, who warned that the National Assembly could withhold budgetary allocation to the commission in the 2026 appropriation.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Sen. Sani Musa, described the situation as unacceptable, stressing that legislative oversight is a constitutional obligation, not a courtesy. He warned that the committee would invoke its full constitutional powers to compel compliance, insisting that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies must respect legislative summons and ensure accountability.
