FG Drops Terrorism Financing Count Against Malami, Son, Amends Charges
The Federal Government has amended the criminal charges filed against former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, removing earlier allegations relating to terrorism financing.
At the resumed court sitting on Wednesday, counsel representing the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinlolu Kehinde, informed the court of the development and formally applied for leave to substitute the previous charge sheet with an amended version.
According to proceedings, the revised charge no longer contains the terrorism financing allegation that had attracted public attention when the case first surfaced.
The matter is part of ongoing legal action involving the DSS, which is prosecuting the defendants over allegations previously outlined in the earlier charge.
Abubakar Malami, who served as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has yet to publicly comment on the latest amendment at the time of filing this report.
The court is expected to rule on the admissibility of the amended charge and proceed with further hearing on the remaining counts.
The development marks a significant adjustment in the scope of allegations originally brought against the defendants, narrowing the focus of the case as it continues before the court.
