IGP Orders Dismissal of Officers Over Effurun Shooting
The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered the immediate disciplinary action against several police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a civilian, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun, Delta State.
The IGP announced the disciplinary action during a press briefing held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja this Wednesday, where he condemned the act as criminal and unprofessional.
According to the IGP, a tribunal investigation confirmed that Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman and his colleagues acted in gross violation of established procedures governing the use of firearms.
He further said that the officers have been transferred to Abuja and their cases forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final ratification before they are handed over to judicial authorities for homicide charges.
While expressing his condolences to the family of the deceased, the IGP assured the public that the era of impunity within the force is over and that every officer will be held accountable under the law.
