Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has dismissed claims by the Nigerian military linking a recent security operation in Adani, Enugu State, to members of IPOB and ESN, describing the report as false and misleading.

Gwamnishu, who participated in the operation, clarified that the mission was strictly targeted at suspected kidnappers who had been terrorising the community. According to him, no member of IPOB or ESN was arrested during the exercise.

He expressed concern over the Nigerian Army’s press release, which reportedly associated the arrests with IPOB and ESN, insisting that such claims were not part of the operation he was involved in.

“To the best of my knowledge, the people we apprehended are kidnappers. I do not know how the narrative linking them to IPOB and ESN was introduced into the report,” he stated.

The activist also addressed claims regarding the discovery of explosives, noting that no such items were found during the Adani operation. He suggested that the reference to explosives in the military’s statement may have been linked to a different operation, not the one in Adani, which I am part of.

Gwamnishu maintained that the primary objective of the mission was to curb kidnapping activities and restore safety in the affected community, stressing that the operation had no connection whatsoever to IPOB, ESN, or the recovery of any explosive devices.
