NASU And SSANU to Begin Indefinite Strike on Friday Over Unresolved Demands
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have announced plans to commence an indefinite strike from Friday over unresolved issues with the Federal Government.
The unions said the decision follows the expiration of deadlines set for the conclusion of renegotiations on their welfare, salary arrears, and other outstanding agreements with the government.
They warned that the industrial action would proceed nationwide if no meaningful resolution is reached before the deadline, stressing that repeated delays and unfulfilled agreements have made strike action inevitable.
NASU and SSANU have repeatedly raised concerns over unpaid allowances, withheld salaries, and alleged inequities in the implementation of agreements signed with the Federal Government regarding university staff welfare.
The unions maintained that the strike is aimed at pressing home their demands and ensuring fair treatment for non-teaching staff across public universities and inter-university centres.
Further developments are expected as government representatives continue efforts to avert a shutdown of academic activities.
