Houthi Leader Calls for Mass Rally in Yemen in Support of Iran
The Leader of Yemen’s Houthi movement, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, has called for a million-strong rally across the country on Sunday in solidarity with Iran, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Saturday, al-Houthi urged Yemenis to take to the streets in the capital, Sana’a, and other provinces to show support for what he described as Iran’s resistance against “blatant American-Zionist aggression.”
The planned demonstrations come as Iran faces mounting military pressure following reported strikes on its territory, raising fears of a broader regional conflict. Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi authorities have repeatedly expressed political and military backing for Tehran, particularly since the outbreak of the Gaza war and subsequent regional confrontations involving the United States and Israel.
Large-scale rallies in Houthi-controlled areas have been a recurring feature of the group’s mobilisation strategy, often used to signal domestic support and regional alignment with Iran and allied movements.
There was no immediate reaction from Yemen’s internationally recognised government or coalition partners regarding the call for mass protests. The situation underscores the widening regional polarisation as tensions between Iran and its adversaries continue to intensify.
