Breaking News: Shallow Graves Uncovered as Imo Police Crack Terror Network, Arrest 15 Suspects
Imo State witnessed a disturbing but decisive moment as the police uncovered a deadly terror network, arresting 15 suspects linked to kidnapping, murder, armed robbery and IPOB/ESN-related activities in a coordinated one-week operation.
Speaking on Monday in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police said the crackdown, carried out with support from other security agencies and local intelligence, dismantled a violent syndicate that had spread fear across several communities in the state.
The operation led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim and a trafficked child, alongside the recovery of a large cache of weapons and crime-related items. These included AK-47 rifles, a LAR rifle, pump-action guns, live ammunition, improvised explosives, machetes, walkie-talkies, laptops, mobile phones, suspected counterfeit currency, Indian hemp, charms and IPOB/ESN insignia.
A major breakthrough came with the arrest of five suspected kidnap kingpins from Orsuobodo in Oguta Local Government Area: Chinonso Ugochukwu, also known as Bob Adam, Chibuzor Okafor, Ohaka Chukwuka, Ezekwe Chizoba and Ezekwe Chinyere.
According to the police, the suspects were responsible for a series of kidnappings, killings and violent intimidation in the area. During interrogation, Bob Adam, described as an IPOB/ESN sub-commander, allegedly confessed and led operatives to a forest location where several corpses were exhumed from shallow graves.
Police sources said the bodies are believed to be those of Pastor Chima, Jeremiah and Ugochi Nwabueze, all from Orsuobodo, a discovery that has left residents shocked and grieving.
Further arrests were made by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, where Amucha Nkemdirim Innocent and Michael Okafor were apprehended.
Pump-action guns and ammunition were recovered, and the suspects reportedly admitted to the killing of Onyebuchi Anthony Njoku and the abduction of two others, allegedly taken to an IPOB camp in Okigwe.
In a separate operation in Oru-East Local Government Area, police arrested Chinaemerem Ogamba in connection with the killing of one Izanga. A locally made pistol was recovered, and the suspect reportedly confessed to involvement in the crime, claiming it was carried out as an act of retaliation.
Describing the operation as a major step forward in restoring security, the Police Commissioner commended his officers for their bravery and reassured residents that criminals would no longer find safe haven in Imo State.
He added that rescue efforts are ongoing and confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
