The announcement was made this Wednesday, in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who noted the decision was made in the public interest.

To fill the vacancy, the President nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, a seasoned energy executive with over 25 years of experience, as the new substantive head of the agency.

The nomination is subject to Senate confirmation, and the most senior official at the authority has been directed to oversee operations in an acting capacity until the process is complete.
