The founder And CEO of Accra-based Dofopa FM, Samuel Awatey, has reportedly died in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Reports say he was among three Ghanaians killed in a drone strike.
His close friend Emmanuel Ayirebi Woyome told reporters that Samuel had informed him he was traveling to Russia on a business trip last December, unaware he would end up joining the Russian army.
Samuel’s pregnant wife received confirmation of his d,eath from his Russian contact on February 27.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa recently noted that at least 55 Ghanaians have d,ied fighting for Russia since 2022, with 272 reportedly involved.
Also, Ghbase News sighted a post from his former colleague DJ Nature who confirmed this news on social media writing; “I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and boss, Samuel Awatey, popularly known as Swallow.
Samuel was the former CEO of Dofopa 105.1 FM and a man whose passion, leadership, and kindness touched many lives.
Just three months ago, he left Ghana for Europe in search of greener pastures and new opportunities.
S,adly, news has reached us that he lost his life in Russia following a bomb incident. His sudden passing is heartbreaking and a great loss to all who knew him.”
He continued, “Samuel ‘Swallow’ Awatey will be remembered for his dedication to the media industry, his guidance, and the positive impact he made on those around him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and everyone mourning this painful loss. Rest well, boss. You will never be forgotten.”
