Iran Blames U.S Blockade as It Reimposes Restrictions on Strait of Hormuz
Iran says it had earlier agreed, in line with prior negotiation understandings, to allow limited and controlled movement of oil tankers and commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, authorities claim the United States has continued what they describe as a “blockade,” disrupting normal maritime operations in the key waterway.
According to Iranian military statements, this has led to a reversal of the earlier arrangement. Tehran says control of the Strait of Hormuz has now returned to its previous tightened state, with the passage of ships placed under strict oversight and management by the armed forces.
Iran further warned that until the United States guarantees unrestricted movement of vessels traveling to and from Iran, the situation in the Strait will remain under strict control and will not return to full openness.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, following previous agreements in negotiations, has agreed in good faith to the managed passage of a limited number of oil tankers and commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. ‘Unfortunately, the Americans continue the so-called blockade.’ For this reason, control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state, and this strategic strait is under the strict management and control of the armed forces.’
It further stated “As long as the United States does not end the complete freedom of passage of vessels from Iran to destination and from destination to Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain under strict control and in its previous state.’”
The Strait of Hormuz, a strategic global oil route, remains a focal point of tension as diplomatic and military pressures continue to shape access and security in the region.
