Troops Neutralize Boko Haram Commander, Arrest Alleged Drone Supplier in Adamawa
Nigerian military troops under Operation HADIN KAI have neutralised a notorious Boko Haram commander, Abdullahi Mafa, during a counter-insurgency operation in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Security sources said the troops, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes, ambushed insurgent fighters along the Visik River axis at about 5:30 pm on Thursday. During the ensuing firefight, Mafa — described as a key “hybrid commander” overseeing both combat and logistics in the Madagali area — was killed.
In a related development later the same evening, troops raided the Madagali Motor Park, where they arrested a suspected logistics operative identified as Dauda Usman Gubula, 64. He is alleged to have supplied drones and other equipment to the insurgent group.
Items recovered from the suspect included two aerial drones and about 20 solar power banks, believed to have been used to sustain insurgent communications and field operations in remote camps. He is currently in military custody undergoing interrogation.
Military sources said the operation formed part of ongoing coordinated offensives across Adamawa and neighbouring Borno State aimed at dismantling Boko Haram command structures and disrupting supply networks in the North-East theatre.
The neutralisation of Mafa and the seizure of drone-related equipment are seen by security analysts as a significant disruption to the insurgents’ operational capabilities in the Madagali axis, where remnants of Boko Haram fighters have continued to stage attacks and maintain logistics routes.
