Two-Storey Building Collapses In Anambra Community

A two-storey building under construction has collapsed in Umuoma community, Umuoji, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, causing panic among residents and passers-by.

The structure, which was reportedly being constructed for hotel use, partially collapsed on Monday evening after loud cracking sounds were heard from the walls while workers were on site.

Residents gotten this Wednesday said more than 20 construction workers narrowly escaped death after jumping from the building as it began caving in.

Some residents blamed the incident on hurried construction work, heavy rainfall and the possible use of substandard materials.

Officials of the state Urban and Town Planning department have since sealed the premises, while investigations continue to determine the cause of the collapse and whether proper building approvals were obtained.
