DHQ Dismisses Claims Of Terrorist Base In South-West
The Defence Headquarters has dismissed claims of the existence of a terrorist base in the South-West, insisting that ongoing military operations are focused on rescuing abducted victims and tackling criminal elements.
The clarification was made this Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, following the recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, had expressed sympathy to the Oyo State Government and families affected by the abduction, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to secure the victims’ safe release.
He added that the military had earlier carried out clearance operations in the Old Oyo National Park and neutralised criminal elements operating within the area.
The Defence Headquarters maintained that intelligence reports do not support claims of any established terrorist structure in the South-West, describing the incident in Oyo State as an isolated criminal act.
